WILLOW & CONSERVATION PLANT MATERIALS

Ambler Design specializes in producing willow fascines and live stakes for ecological restoration work throughout the Northeast. Our team has been involved in the supply and installation of dormant live material for bioengineering for state, federal and private projects since 2001. We supply live willow fascines and stakes for riparian habitat restoration, streambank stabilization and other erosion control projects. We also offer installation services for these materials as well as tree planting services for riparian forest restoration. We are located in central Vermont, but will deliver materials throughout the northeast, including Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

DESCRIPTION OF MATERIAL

The material we use is harvested from wild stands of native willow (primarily Salix discolor) in central and northern Vermont. We carefully select our harvest stands to provide the best quality material possible: stands that are young and vigorous; have dense, straight growth; and are free of disease. To help maximize the success of your project, we only use species that will root readily and have high capacity to put out sucker roots. We also feel strongly about the use of local genotypes of native species as opposed to using cultivars or ordering material from distant bioregions. We take great care of our material from harvest through delivery.

Our fascines are 6-8” in diameter, are tightly bound with untreated biodegradable twine at no greater than 2′ intervals, vary from 8-10′ in length, and are constructed of material no greater than 1.5” in diameter. The stakes vary from 0.5″-2” in diameter and can be specified from 18″-36” in length. If there are additional material specifications required for your project, we can usually meet them if it is not too late in the harvesting season.
