Our Story

Ian Ambler started Ambler Design with the goal of creating unique and highly crafted landscapes.   His desire has always been to design and create spaces that blend our built environment with the beautiful forms found within nature.

Ian grew up in the mountains of Stowe, Vermont.   From his earliest years he was playing in the brook below his childhood home, rolling rocks out of the woods to build stone walls and digging in the family gardens.

He spent his youth taking in the beauty of this place, the lush mountain streams in August, the subtle grays of November and the burgeoning possibility of Spring in May.

After graduating from Stowe High School, Ian attended Cornell University, graduating in 1997 with a degree in Landscape Architecture.   Following graduation he traveled extensively, planting trees in British Columbia, working for landscape architects in Toronto, apprenticing with Natural Builders in England and managing construction projects abroad for an ecological engineering firm in Burlington, VT.

With his wife Stacey, and a crew of committed craftsmen, Ambler Design was born in 2002. We have since, become a highly regarded and well established company with deep roots in Central Vermont.

In our work, we strive to honor this magical landscape with intention, respect and creativity.
